Stephen Edwin King (born September 21st 1947) is an American author of supernatural, horror, suspense, crime, science fiction, and fantasy books. The title is "King of Horror" which is a play on his surname, and an ode to his high standing in pop culture. His books have sold over 350 million copies, and many have been adapted into TV series, films miniseries, as well as comic books. King has published 64 novels under his pen name Richard Bachman and five nonfiction books. King has also written about 200 short stories, the majority of which are published in books collections.King has been honored with Bram Stoker Awards, World Fantasy Awards as well as British Fantasy Society Awards. The Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters was awarded to him by the National Book Foundation in 2003. He also received the World Fantasy Award for Life Achievement in 2004 and the Grand Master Award of the Mystery Writers of America in 2007. He was presented with a National Medal of Arts by the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts in 2015 for his contributions to the field of literature.
