Bernard John Taupin CBE (born 22 May 1950) is a famous English songwriter, singer and visual artist. He is most famous for his long-term relationship with the musician Elton John, a songwriting partnership that is one of the most successful in history. Taupin composed the lyrics to the majority John's hits. In the year 1967, Taupin responded to an advertisement in New Musical Express by Liberty Records. John responded to the same advertisement, and they have collaborated on numerous albums. John and Taupin were both inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame 1992. John was the son of Robert Taupin, and Daphne and Daphne, daughters of John Leonard Palchett Poppy Cort who were both Cambridge University-educated classics instructors and former rector of Sale, Greater Manchester (then known as Cheshire).
