William Maher (/ma/r/; born January 20th, 1956), is an American comedian and writer. Maher also works as a political commentator, producer and actor. He is well-known for his HBO political talk show Real Time with Bill Maher (2003-present) and the corresponding late-night show known as Politically Incorrect (1993-2002) which aired initially broadcast on Comedy Central and later on ABC. In 2022, Maher started the podcast Random.Maher. Random.Maher is well-known for his satire of politics as well as sociopolitical commentary. His topics include politics, religion, correctness, and mass media. His views on religion were the basis for the documentary film he made in 2008 Religulous. Maher is a strong supporter of animal rights and has served as a member of the PETA board since 1997. Maher also sits on the advisory board for Project Reason. In 2005, Maher was ranked 38 on Comedy Central's list of the 100 most popular standup comedians. On September 14, 2010 Maher was honored with the Hollywood Walk of Fame star.
