Brian Anthony Boitano, born on 22nd October 1963 in Sunnyvale, California is an American figure skating champion. He is the 1988 Olympic champion, 1986 and 1988 World Champion, and the 1985-1988 U.S. National Champion. He turned professional following the 1988 season. Under new rules by the ISU, he returned to competition in 1993. He competed at the 1994 Winter Olympics, where he placed sixth. He was promoted to professional status. In 1996 he was inducted into both the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame and the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame.Early in his career Boitano was known primarily for his ability to jump. Alongside other skaters, he helped to push the limits of the sport of skating. In 1982, Boitano became the first American to complete a triple Axel. In 1987, he introduced his trademark jump, known as the "Boitano triple Lutz," in which the skater raises his left arm above his head. In the 1986-87 season the skater attempted a quadruple jump , and also during the 1988 World Figure Skating Championships.
