David Ortez

David Amyrico Ortiz Arias, an American Dominican who was a designated hitter (DH) and first baseman of Major League Baseball, was born November 18, 1975. He played primarily with the Boston Red Sox in the American League (AL). After six years in the Minnesota Twins, with no notable results, Ortiz was promoted to the Red Sox where he played a key role in the team's 2004 World Series championship drought. He also won championships from 2007-2013. He was the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013. In the first five seasons of his time at the club, he averaged 41 home runs and 128 runs batted in, which was more than the AL twice in the latter section and setting the club's single-season record with 54 home runs in 2006 He was also in the top five spots of the AL's Most Valuable Player voting all five years.Used almost exclusively as a DH throughout his 14 seasons in the Red Sox, he was a ten-time All-Star and a seven-time Silver Slugger winner, and became regarded as one of the greatest designated hitters all time.
