Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19th 1946) is an American actor, singer, philanthropist, and businesswoman, known primarily for her contributions to country music. Parton's success as a songwriter prompted her to make her debut album in 1967, with Hello, I'm Dolly. The album was followed by great success throughout the 1960s both as a solo artist and also in a series with Porter Wagoner, before she hit her peak in sales during the 1970s, and continued to do so until the 1980s. The albums she released during the 1990s did not perform as well, however she rediscovered commercial success during the new millennium. She has released albums on a variety of independent labels from 2000 onward and her own label Dolly Records. She has sold over 100 million albums worldwide.Parton's music is Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)-certified platinum, gold and multi-platinum award. Her songs have had 25 reach no. She made it to no. 1 on Billboard's country music charts this year, which is the highest number for a female artist (tied with Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are an all-time record for any artist.
