George Strait

George Harvey Strait Sr. (born May 18th, 1952) is an American country music singer as well as songwriter, actor and music producer. Strait is popularly referred to as the "King of Country" and is considered to be one of the most influential and popular recording artists ever. He is credited with igniting the neotraditionalist nation movement during the 1980s. His simple cowboy image and roots-oriented music was significant in the development of the neotraditionalist movement and the demise of pop-country. In the 1980s, seven albums from Strait reached the top of the country charts. Strait was awarded his first Grammy for his album Troubadour in 2000. He was also named Artist of the Decade at the Academy of Country Music and elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1989, Strait was named CMA Entertainer of the Year.
