Penelope Cruz Sanchez (/kru:th/; Spanish: [pe'nelope 'kruth 'santSeth]; born 28 April 1974) is a Spanish actress. Known for her roles in films across a variety of genres, but particularly in the Spanish language She has been awarded a variety of accolades, including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award as well as addition to nominations for the Primetime Emmy Award, four Golden Globe Awards, and five Screen Actors Guild Awards. She is the only Spanish actress to have been nominated and win an Academy Award. She was also cast in Belle Epoque (1992), Don Juan (1998), The Hi-Lo Country (1999), The Girl of Your Dreams (1999) as well as Woman on Top (2000).
