He is an American sports journalist, radio host, and presenter on television. He is a guest commentator on ESPN's First Take, where he is joined by Molly Qerim. He also is a frequent NBA analyst on SportsCenter. Smith also is an NBA analyst for ESPN on NBA Countdown and NBA broadcasts on ESPN. Smith was also host of the Stephen A. Smith Show, which airs on ESPN Radio. Smith is a columnist in the spotlight for ESPNNY.com, ESPN.com, and The Philadelphia Inquirer.Stephen Anthony Smith was born in the Bronx one of the boroughs in New York City. He was raised in the Hollis section of Queens. Smith is the fifth child in a family of six. Smith is the oldest of four siblings as well as one younger brother called Basil who died in a car accident in 1992. There is also an half-brother from his father's side. Smith's parents were born in Saint Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. His father was the owner of the hardware shop. Smith's maternal grandmother who was white was his grandfather. His grandparents were all black. In 1986 Smith was a graduate of Thomas Edison High School in Queens.
