Christina Maria Aguilera, (/aegI’le@r@/; Spanish pronunciation: [agi’lera]) is an American actor, singer, and television personality. She was born on December 18 in 1980. Known for her four-octave vocal range and her ability to hold high notes for long periods of time, she has been described as the "Voice of Generation". Aguilera became a household name by releasing her debut album eponymously, for which she is credited with influencing the revival of teen pop in the late 1990s as well as the early 2000s. Her work that includes homosexuality, feminism and domestic violence, has garnered both praise and criticism. Aguilera is frequently mentioned by other artists for her influence. Aguilera first made her appearance on television in 1998. She signed with RCA Records. The debut album produced three Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles -- "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants" and "Come On Over Baby (All I Want is You)" -and won her the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. She was branded a bubblegum pop artist, she released her debut Spanish record, Mi Reflejo (2000) and was atop the Billboard Top Latin Albums for the period of 19 weeks in a row.
