David Amyrico Ortiz Arias, an American Dominican who was a designated hitter (DH) and first baseman in Major League Baseball, was born on November 18, 1975. He was a major player for the Boston Red Sox in the American League (AL). After spending a portion of six seasons with the Minnesota Twins with unremarkable results, Ortiz moved to the Red Sox, where he played a leading role in ending the team's 86-year World Series championship drought in 2004, as well as winning championships in 2007 and 2013; He was named the World Series Most Valuable Player in 2013. In the initial five seasons with the club in which he played, he averaged 41 home runs and 128 RBI and led the AL twice in the latter category and also setting the single-season record of 54 home runs in 2006 and he was in the top five of the AL's Most Valuable Player voting all five years.Used mostly as a DH throughout his 14 seasons playing for the Red Sox, he was an All-Star te
