Dolly Rebecca Parton (born January 19th 1946) is an American singer-songwriter, actress as well as philanthropist and businesswoman, known primarily for her contributions to the field of country music. After achieving success as a music writer for other artists, Parton made her album debut in 1967 with Hello, I'm Dolly, which led to success during the remaining 1960s (both as a solo artist and with a series of duet albums featuring Porter Wagoner), before her peak sales and chart position began in the 1970s, and continued through the 1980s. The albums she released in the 1990s didn't sell as well, but she achieved commercial success again after the turn of the millennium. She has released albums on a variety of independent labels since 2000 as well as her own label, Dolly Records. Parton has sold more than 100 million records around the world. Her music includes Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA-certified platinum gold, multi-platinum award-winning tracks. 25 of her songs have made it to the top. one on the Billboard charts of country music an all-time record for a female singer (tied with Reba McEntire). Her 44 Top 10 Country Albums are the best of any artist.
