Robert John Downey Jr. was born on April 4, 1965. He is an American actor, producer and director. His professional career has been defined by critical and popular success in his youth but was followed by a period of drug abuse and legal troubles, before a resurgence of commercial success later in his career. Time magazine named Downey among the 100 most influential individuals around the world in 2008. From 2013 to 2015, Forbes listed him as Hollywood's highest-paid actor. He made his acting debut in Pound, the son of Robert Downey Sr.'s 1970 film. The Brat Pack followed him in the films for teens, Weird Science (1985), and Less than Zero (1987). In 1992, Downey portrayed the title character in the biopic Chaplin in which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor and also won the BAFTA Award. Following a stay at Corcoran Substance Abuse Treatment Facility to be charged with drug abuse, Downey joined Ally McBeal.
