American businessman Jordan Ross Belfort (/’belf@rt/ born July 9th the 9th of July, 1962) and is a well-known speaker and author, a financial criminal, stockbroker and former stockbroker. He was sentenced in 1999 to fraud and related charges. These crimes were connected to manipulation of the stock market, as well as running a boiler-room as part of a pennystock fraud and manipulation of the stock market. Belfort was sentenced to 22 months in jail in connection with an agreement in which he gave testimony against numerous associates and subordinates of his fraudulent scheme.He published the memoir The Wolf of Wall Street in 2007, which was later adapted into the Martin Scorsese film of the identical title that was released in 2013 in which he was played by Leonardo DiCaprio. He claims in interviews and in his memoirs that the company was a first successful one; he then expanded his meat-selling business to include a workforce of workers, and sold 5 000 pounds (2,300 kilograms) of fish and beef each week. Stratton Oakmont was a boiler room where penny stocks were offered and investors were defrauded by "pump-and-dump" stock sales.
