Tyler Perry (born Emmitt Perry Jr. 13th September 1969) is an American actor, comedian, filmmaker, and playwright. Perry is the creator and performer of the Madea character the tough, elderly woman. Perry's films span from traditional filmmaking techniques to live stage plays. Many of Perry's stage plays were later made into feature films. He also created numerous television series, the most notably Tyler Perry's House of Payne, which was on for eight seasons on TBS from 2006 to 2012. In 2011, Forbes listed him as the highest-paid person in entertainment with a salary of US$130 million from May 2010 and May 2011. Perry signed an exclusive contract for a number of years with Oprah Winfrey (OWN) in 2012. Based on Perry's success on scripted television the partnership was created primarily for OWN.
